Mizoram, India

Mizoram is one of the states of Northeast India, with Aizawl as its capital city. The name is derived from Mi (people), Zo (Belonging to the people of Mizoram/Lushai Hills) and Ram (land), and thus Mizoram implies "land of the hill people".In the northeast, it is the southern most landlocked state sharing borders with three of the Seven, now with the addition of (Sikkim,) Eight sister states, namely Tripura, Assam, Manipur. The state also shares a 722 kilometer border with the neighbouring countries of Bangladesh and Myanmar. Like several other northeastern states of India, Mizoram was previously part of Assam until 1972, when it was carved out as a Union Territory. It became the 23rd state of India, a step above Union Territory, on 20 February 1987. Mizoram's population was 1,091,014, according to a 2011 census. It is the 2nd least populous state in the country. Mizoram covers an area of approximately 21,087 square kilometers. About 91% of the state is forested.

Aizawl

Aizawl the capital of Mizoram, is situated at about 1132 meters above sea level. It is a beautiful and bustling 112 years old city set on rigdges of steep hills. Flanked on the north by the craggy peaks of Durtlang, the hill city overlooks the valley of the river Tlawng and ranges of blue hill beyond. It is arilinked by daily flights from Kolkata and Guwahati. It is connected to Imphal by air and it accessible from Shillong, Guwahati and Silchar by road.

Champai

Set in the beautiful state of Mizoram with its colourful tribal traditions, orchids and butterflies, Champhai boasts a fabulous view of the Myanmar hills. It covers an area of 3,185.83 sq km and has a population of 108,392 (2001 Census). This frontier district has a special place in the history of the tiny north-eastern state and its people. It is said that the history of Mizo starts from Champhai and ends in Champhai. Major towns are Ngopa, Khawhai and Khawzawl. It is a fast developing venue on the Indo-Myanmar border. The famous Rihdil Lake is only about 50 kms away from the town of Champhai.

Lawngtlai

The Districts shares its boundaries with Lunglei and Saiha District in the north and south respectively. Lawngtlai District covers an area of 2258 sq.kms with the population of 73,685 ( 2001 Census). The inhabitants of the District are mainly the ethnic groups of tribals like Lai and Chakma, who are among the minor tribal communities of Mizoram. The main occupation is cultivation and the rural population largely depends on agriculture for their subsistence. The physical feature is mainly hilly except with long narrow strip of low lying area along the western side of Chamdur Valley .

Serchhip

Serchhip is the headquarters town of Serchhip district in the Indian state of Mizoram, and also the headquarters of Serchhip Sadar subdivision. It lies in the central part of Mizoram, and 112 km away from the State capital city of Aizawl.

Palak lake

Palak Dil or Pala Tipo (Mara language for "swallowing lake") is the largest lake in southern Mizoram, northeast India. It is located in near Phura village in Saiha district, within the Mara Autonomous District Council. Its geographical location falls under the Indo-Burma biodiversity hotspot, and is therefore rich in animal and plant species. The lake is a major component of the Palak Wildlife Sanctuary,and it supports the major biodiversity of the sanctuary.
